How Self-Awareness Affects Motivation

Updated: Jun 29, 2023

Have you ever experienced a lack of motivation? What effect did this have on your productivity? What effect did this have on your mood?

Often people will experience a lack of motivation. I know I have in the past. The reasons people may experience this lack of motivation are many and varied.

Some people may feel low energy. Again, they may experience this low energy for varied reasons. It could be to do with health issues, mindset, or various lifestyle choices among other reasons. Recognising and ascertaining why you are feeling this lack of energy requires self-awareness.

Some people may feel that their goals are overwhelming. Overwhelm can be a key factor in demotivation. If the goal you are trying to achieve seems too daunting, it can provoke a lack of confidence in your abilities. Ruminating over a lack of confidence can exacerbate these feelings and increase demotivation. The more you overthink about your abilities, the more likely you are to succumb to this vicious cycle. Thinking is such a powerful tool for both demotivation and motivation. Identifying this negative thinking requires self-awareness.

Some people may encounter obstacles towards achieving their goal that they think are insurmountable. This could be because they have not planned for obstacles when setting their goal. It could also be just because obstacles do present themselves. The way in which we view obstacles is powerful. Again, this is due to our thinking. We can view them as challenges to overcome, lessons to learn from, or failures. Again, being able to catch our negative thoughts requires self-awareness. Challenging this negative thinking is a skill and it can be learned.

All of the above and more can be addressed to increase motivation. If anyone wants support with motivational issues, please don’t hesitate to book a Free Mindset Meeting here Home | Chloe Mepham BSc Certified Life Coach to see if I can be of support to you.

In order to address these motivational issues elevated levels of self-awareness are required. An effective way to increase self-awareness can be through meditation.

Meditation provides us with the time and space to focus on ourselves, our goals, and our thoughts.

Often, people will use meditation to try to clear their minds. Using focused meditations on specific subjects such as motivation can increase our self-awareness in relation to these specific subjects. I have developed meditations for motivation, relaxation, and identifying emotional cues.
